New Promotion Policy for Teachers Eyed

The Department of Education (DepEd) is finalizing a new promotion policy for public school teachers.
Education Undersecretary Jesus Mateo said the new policy will address concerns of teachers with regard to career development.

The new policy will enable teachers to be promoted to higher positions based on their attainment of set competencies rather than waiting for a vacancy like in the present set-up.

“Teachers will have a career path from Teacher I to Teacher VII (Salary Grade 11 to Salary Grade 17) and Master Teacher 1 to Master Teacher IV (Salary Grade 18 to Salary Grade 22),” said the Department of Education (DepEd) in a separate statement.

“This shall also mean that teachers will no longer have to shift to the school administration career line for career growth,” it added.
