The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved on third and final reading a measure lowering the optional retirement age of government employees from 60 to 56.
With 206 affirmative votes, the chamber passed House Bill 8683 which seeks to amend Section 13-A of Republic Act 8291, otherwise known as the "Government Service Insurance Act of 1997."
Government workers who have reached the age of 56 years may file for retirement and be entitled to old-age pension for life from the GSIS.
ACT Teachers party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio, principal author of the bill, said it is high time to heed the civil servants' clamor for an earlier retirement age for them to "enjoy their retirement benefits for as long as possible."
Tinio said on the part of public-school teachers, teachers in the Philippines retire five years later than those in most countries, noting that retirement age is 60 in most North American, European and Asian countries.
“Respect and humane consideration demand that a person of 55 years -- a few years shy of being a senior citizen -- should not be required to perform the arduous functions expected of a public-school teacher in the Philippines. At such stage of their lives, public school teachers should at least be given the choice if they wish to rest from the profession and enjoy better and healthy years ahead,” Tinio said.

With this approval by the house of representatives, all the government professionals are now in joy that at the age of 56 they can finally rest from service and enjoy their personal lives with their families, travel, and other more interesting and exciting things they deserve to have and experience. The only thing we can do, as of the moment, is to wait for this to take effect and we hope it would be as soon as possible.

We would like to ask if 60 years of age , is it mandatory to retire or should continue serving until 65 years old?
ReplyDeleteup to 60 yrs old lang po ang mandatory
Delete65 mandatory. 60 optional
Delete60 is mandatory for private sector; for govt, as of now, 60 is optional, 65 mandatory
DeleteKOREK! DAPAT LANG MAG TAKE EFFECT NA ANG BATAS NA TO SOON PARA MABIGYAN DIN NG OPPORTUNITY IYONG MGA BAGONG QUALIFIED TEACHERS! SANA IPRIORITY NG ADMINISTRASYON NGAYON LALUNG LALO NA NI PANGULOG DUTERTE! GOD BLESS!
Deletehindi ba liliit ang pension niya?
DeleteMandatory or compulsory retirement age is 65 yrs. old.
ReplyDeleteAs per new retirement scheme, compulsory or mandatory retirement og all government workers would be 60 years old only
DeleteHow shall they fast tract the process? the law must in place now...
DeleteThanks you po for the Good News... Sir/Ma'am...and more power.
ReplyDeletePnu kung di pa nareached ung 15 yrs. In service to get pension.? How about 11 yrs. Lng ang service when become 60 yrs. Old magpepension prin ba?
DeleteWhat is the status of this bill?
ReplyDeletehow about private employees? We just hope that there's also a law that allows 55 or 56 years old private employees can do avail optional retirement.
ReplyDeletemasyadong maaga pa unless you already prepared your source of income for your retirement or you are good in business.
DeleteIf I opt to retire at age 56 with 25 years in service, will I my pension start at age 56 also?
ReplyDeleteYes
Deletebkt po si mama sabi po s GSIS ,,,aantayin p dw pg 60 n sya bago makuha ang pension nia. ngretire si mama this year ,,
DeleteIts a long awaited day. Thanks oh Lord that it was approved!..Praying that our salary hike soon to augment the basic needs of every empyee...God bless us all teachers.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the benefits of retiring at the age of 56? Baka barya lang dapat included ito sa implimenting rules otherwise the retirement law is in limbo
ReplyDeleteHow about the number of years required in order to get the maximum of 90% of the present Salary?
ReplyDeletewhat about the minimum 15 years years requirement to gat pension> will it be lowerd also?
DeletePnp and Militay are in the same retirement age at 56 is mandatory...optional is atleast you have rendered 20 years service.

ReplyDeleteHow about the maximum age of retirement? 65 pa rin po ba?
ReplyDeleteyap. .
Delete
ReplyDeleteako po ay dating employee ng mmtc and covered po ng gsis aidudugtong po ba srvice ko dun to my presenr employmentif i retire!
Sana sinali man lg ang mga private. kawawa naman kasi usually mga government employees malaki sweldo nila at malaki din pension unlike private employees, maliit na nga sweldo maliit pa pension. sanan kasama private employees for optional retirement at age 56.
ReplyDeleteHoping that this bill will also benefit the employees from private companies. Please include us po.
ReplyDeleteI just hope that the IRR will be released soon. And I hope the senate will really adopt the lower house decision to fastract the a bill and signed into law..
ReplyDeleteHappy
DeleteThanks for all your info.. Im 50 now and 25yrs n a service.. Wow... š 6 more yrs to go..ano kayang benefits makukuha ko after..automatic pension b xa or ma wait pko at the age of 60?
DeleteWhat about private employees?
Baka yung kapalit niya, may puso at makatao, sana, sana, sana. . . .
DeleteThis proposed amendment to the GSIS Law would require budget appropriation or an increase in the contribution of active members to ensure the viability of pension fund.
At pag me loan balance ka pa, syempre iaawas lahat muna he he.
ReplyDeleteang aga, you will just get bored unless you have prepared funding for your retirement, ang liit lang ng SSS ension
ReplyDeleteMay discrimenasyon sa nagpasa NG batas bkit pra lng SA government employee, bat d sinama Ang sa pprivat employee nagttanong lng
ReplyDeleteWhat about for Private Employees? 65 or 60?
ReplyDeleteHow about SSS can we retire also at the age of 56 as an OFW.
ReplyDeleteIn my case,i taught for 21 years in a private school before joining deped at the age of 47.im still in my 7th yearin deped.at age 56(two years from now)mag 9 years pa lang ako.pwede po ba isali sa pgkwenta ang years in service ko sa private school para makaretire ako at age 56 at matatanggap ang mga benefits just like the other retirees?
ReplyDeletesame with my case. i started teaching in a private school for 16 years and this year is my 20th year in public school
DeleteHow about SSS as an OFW can we retire also at the age of 56
ReplyDeleteAs of now sir/maam government ruling for pension will only starts at 60...
DeletePaano naman kaming mga private employees? Tao din po kami!!! :(
ReplyDeletekorek
DeleteThis should apply to Politicians as well
ReplyDeleteDpt apply to all pti Government positions and Politicians too
ReplyDeletePag nag 56 po ako i will be 33yrs. In service,,ilang percent po kya ang makukuha kong pensyon skaling magretire na ako that age
ReplyDeletePwede po bang magtanong? Is this retirement age change for GSIS only or for SSS as well?
ReplyDeleteSalamat po.
If this is true, it should have been signed by the President else it will be back to zero on the 18th Congress. I doubt this one! I think this was made as a campaign strategy by the ACT partylist!
ReplyDeleteNag availed na po ako nang early retirement (15 yrs in service) and im now going 56yrs old, can my pension will effect immediately? Or anything i need to do, for my entitlement of my pension to start?
ReplyDeleteBakit po walang yearly increase Ang pension Ng mga retirees...dapat Sana may dagdag kahit ilan percent man
ReplyDeleteI will be 56 this September 5 with 11 and half years of service as teacher in public high school.
ReplyDeleteIf i retire will i also get a pension at 56 or at 60
mahaba pa usapan ito kasi wala pa senate version and the gsis is actually against it.. so we just have to wait and see...
ReplyDeletesana sa private din, same sentiments baka di ma-enjoy Ang retirement at 60.. you retired to enjoy life, not because you're too old to work anymore..
ReplyDeletecalling Congress,, why government only? we want to enjoy early retirement too..
Samantalang from ordinary employee up to President of the company ay 60 yo lang pwede na mag SSS benefits.
ReplyDeleteMaganda yan na ma enjoy pa ng mga Bayaning Guro ang old age pension nila, but pls allow those who want to serve those who want to serve teaching field those who are willing to serve more but with incentive above their retirement age.
ReplyDeleteYong nag resign ho sa govt service with 15 years service above like me 17 years, yong pension namin start na din at 56 years old instead of 60 years old? Thank you sa sagot.
ReplyDeletebaka mamaya ang computation ng retirement benefit is 10 years back instead of 3 years back if the retirement age is 56. klarohin nga natin ito?
Hal: unang taon - 56 yrs old & up na may 35 years na length of service; 2nd year - 56 years old & up na may 30- 34 yrs length of service; 3rd year- 56 years old & up w/ 25- 30 w length of service; 4th year - 56 years old up na may 20- 24 years length of service at 5th year - 56 years old and up w/ 15- 19 years in service!
