A Senate Bill was filed to upgrade the minimum salary grade level of public school teachers. Senator Angara has been pushing this bill to be approved so that teachers would have enough means to support their families. From salary grade 11, he wants to bring it higher to salary grade 19 which will give a salary of P42,099.00 to entry-level teachers.

Senate Bill 135
AN ACT UPGRADING THE MINIMUM SALARY GRADE LEVEL OF TEACHERS FROM SALARY GRADE 11 TO 19
Public school teachers are among the most underpaid workers, given their workload and
role in the society. Despite the fact that they are heralded as molders of our children’s future
and second parents to our children, public school teachers receive a basic salary that does not
equate to their contribution. Our teachers are considered to be the heart of the educational
system. Hence, the government needs to give priority to their welfare and interests.
The low salaries received by our public school teachers have been a major disincentive
for them to improve their skills in teaching and pursue further education and training. More so,
our public schools have failed to attract the best and the brightest graduates from the top
colleges and universities because of low salary levels, preventing our public education system
from benefiting from the knowledge and expertise of outstanding teachers. Especially with the
recent implementation of the K-12 law, having inspired and capable teachers is probably one of
the best investments our government could make.
In this regard, this bill seeks to raise the minimum salary grade level of teachers from the
current Salary Grade 11 to 19. With this increase in salaries, more qualified and competent
educators will be attracted to teach in public schools. Definitely, this will greatly help in
motivating our teachers to strive for excellence in their field and thus, improve the quality of
education in the public school system.
For the abovementioned reasons, approval of this bill is earnestly urged.
SONNY ANGARA

ReplyDeleteafter election..NGANGA!
#paasa
where to get the money? That is the question.
DeleteIt's more awesome!
DeleteIF
In the next 2 year's
they will
double the number of public schools &/or school classrooms
& double the numbers of
all public teachers that are presently employed.
well said maam.
Deleteif that salary passes, we hope the quality of graduates will also improve.
DeleteThe holistic growth of a child is not merely based on what teachers can offer to them.. Yes, basically teachers are the ones who provide learning (on basic subjects).. but a child's success is a shared responsibilities of the parents (most especially), the child himself, teachers (as the instrument) and the community as well. (your word MOSTLY di po ako agree jan)
Deleteconsider also the CHILD PROTECTION POLICY. teachers' hands are tied in disciplining the learners. discipline is the foundation of learning.i am against corporal punishment. but you cannot force the learners to make assignment or submit projects. Misbehaving learners in class usually distract classes. and they cannot be reprimaded or punished for misbehaviors or else kasalanan ni teacher
Deletesorry bru students now a days are very different before while noon wala pang gadgets cellphones ,computers etc but now kakaiba na ang behavior nila towards basic education walang pkialam sa mundo because their attention is linked to gadgets not the lesson anymore.ako i am 32 years in the service handling math, science and english for HS basi sa experience ko nako very bad impression.ako kumanta, sumayaw, tumambling kahit ano basta lang makinig sila pero after 10 min wla na rin back to gadgets again... so kailanself discipline yan on the part of students. The role of the teacher is only to teach them. acquiring basic knowledge lies on them...
DeleteHoping for a positive result asap
ReplyDeleteArangkada ni Angara. Nakalimutan na nya yata yung TRAIN Law nya.
ReplyDeleteYou are focusing on instant gratification for teachers. There’s so much to improve in the quality of our education system. To be honest, compared to entry level on most private companies, teachers on public schools are not underpaid. (not to mention, the number of days-off they get in a year). Don’t get me wrong, they are valuable and they should be taken care of. At some point they deserve increase but, let it come with individual upskilling.
The quality of education begins with the quality of educators. Invest in their trainings and professional advancement. While those do not get into their pay right away, I’m sure they will be very happy with the results.
UNAHIN NYO SILA KAHIT DI SILA BOTANTE!
you don't know the overload work of public school teachers compared to private schools... we are underpaid and work overload... government cannot give the instructional materials that we need everyday
DeleteYou'll never know our hardwork and sacrifices that we have inserted just to give quality education! You never know because you never experience..
DeleteI've been working in an Esl industry where we can get a monthly salary of a public school teacher or more than than in just our first cutoff. When you work harder you can get more than what you deserve. The more the efficient a person is, the higher the salary he/she gets.
ReplyDeletereally?
DeleteHoping it will come trueš
ReplyDeleteScam.
ReplyDeleteSeriously? During election period?
Maybe you should put yourselves in our shoes first before uttering such words. We even sacrifice the time that we need to give to our families just to meet all the paper works. We work over time but we are not paid for that.We spend our money to buy our materials for everyday teaching.More than half of our salary napupunta sa school kasi we love our job and we wanted to give our best so to meet all the things needed and for the love that we have for our children.Maybe it's time that the government will also think of us just like what President Roa Duterte did for the soldiers. We are also fighting battles everyday.not by using guns but using our mind and strength to teach the school children.

Kapag naisabatas na sabihin mo ganito, "ALAM NIO DI KO YAN INANOUNCE KASI GUSTO KO KAYO SORPRESAHIN, SAKA AYOKONG MAGPAPOGI LANG SA INYO, KAYA NGAYUNG NAISABATAS NA, PABAYAAN NIO NAMAN NA IANOUNCE KO NA NA AKO ANG MAY AKDA NYAN." Id rather vote for someone who reports his/her accomplishments than someone who promises the future.
ReplyDeletesana matuloy at maasahan....
ReplyDeleteSana totoo to.

I think the increase should also take into consideration those teachers who are teaching in far-flung areas, they are the ones who deserve an increase.
ReplyDeletewhat about the NURSES????? Come on. They’ve been hoping for a higher compensation!
Masyado sila demanding.
ReplyDeleteHow about the health care workers especially nurses?
ReplyDeleteYes, we might be needing the increase but what we needed most are classrooms, lesser number of students in each class, more teachers, proper and quality books, health insurance and other benefits for teacher's needs...
ReplyDeletethis is a good bill... but... I doubt if all Public School Teachers deserve this bill. I suggest there must be a criteria to evaluate teachers for a higher salary.
ReplyDeletePaano nman Yung ordinaryong manggagawa..puro lng guro inuuna nyo...
ReplyDeleteWe teachers do consider not only for the classroom expenses and materials in teaching everyday also, we consider our pupils who do not have basic school supplies like pen and paper. Ang hirap magturo lalo na kapag nasa public school ka that is almost of your class is poor and we teachers kahit na magagalit dahil responsibility yan ng parents eh wala kaming ibang choice kundi magprovide nlg. If we could provide more than we have na hinuhugot namin sa kakarampot na sweldo what more if we will be given the chance to be paid of what we deserve. Why people are bashing that teachers are not doing their job and is not deserving to have a high salary? My gosh.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading the posts and replies here. I just would like to mention that teachers, tagged as unsung heroes really exemplify such. We have been the teachers of all the others professionals. Pag natapos ang ibang professionals ng trabaho, they can rest, but teachers even manage to take home extra work just to prepare for the next day. We even do home visitations para imotivate ang mga students. In the end, ppunta sila para magreklamo dahil bagsak. Pag walang baon ang mga students namin, we even do charity work.
ReplyDeleteOooppppsss. Yup its the dreams of all teachers, pero saan nga ba kukunin ang fund para jan? na kahit 1peso nga lang na idadagdag para maging good quality mga books natin pinagdidibatihan pa...
ReplyDeleteHindi niyo ang Pilipinas isa sa mga pinakamayan na bansa, not knowing out of the history checked unalang ang gold deposits sa World Bank. Philippines will be great again walang magpapautang sa bansa kung walang kakayanan.
ReplyDeletehow about nurses po mga mahal naming senador tinaas niyo na po lahat kaming nasa health and medical field wala parin..
ReplyDeleteWhile reading the comments, nakakalungkot na kung ijudge ng iba ang mga teachers ay napakababa, D po ba natin naisip that teachers are the ones who are molding the future generations. If the salary of the teacher will increase, for sure, teachers will prefer to stay and serve our country. Pero pag hindi binigyan ng pansin, expect that some of our teachers will find a greener pasture.
