ACT counters the claim of DepEd on Teachers' Salary Increase

The Department of Education has recently stated that public school teachers have been compensated properly as the data show that their salaries and benefits have been doubled from the year 2000 to date.

This has been countered by the Association of Concerned Teachers or ACT, stating that not only the teachers have received the said increased for almost 2 decades but all the public government employees. In fact, the higher officials like the members of the cabinet have enjoyed 570% to 606% increase in their salaries since 2000.

“Sec. Briones forgot to mention that in the same period, salaries of top government officials increased 5 to 6 times. Now, whose welfare are truly taken cared of?” said Joselyn Martinez of ACT.

“Clearly the principle of equitable and sustainable pay is not reflected in the government salary scheme. The government is the foremost violator of the constitutionally mandated principle of social justice as the gap between rank-and file and top officials continue to widen," she added.
