Pay Hike for Teachers to be given in Tranches, TINUTULAN.

Various business groups like The Makati Business Club, Management Association of the Philippines, Action for Economic Reforms, Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines, Foundation for Economic Freedom and Philippine Business for Education have appealed to the government that the proposed P10,000 per month salary increase for public school teachers, should be given in tranches.

According to these business groups, it would be totally unfair for private school teachers since the public school teachers are receiving approximately 50% to 60% higher in salary than them. It would also ignite their desire to apply in the public sector and abandoned the private institutions.

Rep. Antonio Tinio of ACT-Partylist immediately denounced this claim from the business groups and argued that most of the private schools are hiring teachers in contractual basis and merely the reason why they have lower salaries. He also emphasized that this issue of comparison should not hinder the pursuance of the pay hike for the public school teachers.

“We totally reject this argument benchmarking the salaries of public teachers to private school teachers,” Tinio said.
