"GMRC Act" isinusulong sa Senado

Lawmakers, teachers, parents, and other members of the community have been trying to push the return of Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) in the K to 12 curriculum.

Many believe that EsP or Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao which replaced the GMRC, is not working effectively like the GMRC before. They also said that the contents of GMRC seem to be better than the EsP when it comes to instilling values to the students. That the time allotment can be a factor why EsP is not being treated as a top priority.

Senator Zubiri pushes the Senate Bill 310 which seeks to institutionalize the GMRC in the K to 12 curriculum in support to the rising numbers of incidents criminalities and bullying in the country.

"...we see rising criminality in the streets & inside our homes committed by youngsters and adults who have not undergone GMRC... We witness this low level of discipline and respectful behavior of children & teens who are not most vulnerable to the use of drugs & oftentimes resort to gangsterism." Sen. Migz Zubiri.

Even DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones admitted that the number requests to bring back the GMRC in the curriculum have been noticeably increasing.

The challenge now to DepEd is to whether approve the said senate bill or to reconstruct the implementation of EsP. Either way, the welfare of our children should be the top priority of this issue.
