P63B allocation for gov't workers in the 2020 budget

Government employees are now rejoicing after the senate had passed the 2020 National Budget amounting to P4.1-trillion which includes a huge increase of fund allotment for government employees.

Previously, the House of Representatives has already made an allocation of P31.1-billion for the gov't workers and the senate made an additional P32-billion that gives a total of P63-billion budget allocation.

“This initial victory is a good start in our fight for decent salaries, but a lot of work still needs to be done,” said Joselyn Martinez, ACT Chair.

It has been a battle cry of public school teachers, especially the groups like ACT and TDC, to increase their basic salary from an entry-level of P20,754 tp P30,000. This development in fund allocation is a positive indication that the increase is just around the corner.

“We will continue to demand three things: the retention of the higher pay hike allocation in the bicameral version of the budget; a distribution scheme that gives premium to rank-and-file employees, and a salary increase legislation that will secure the completion of our demand for a P30,000 monthly base pay for teachers,” teachers' group said.
